Renita was excited. Not only had she just graduated from high school, but her parents gave her permission to have a backyard party. This was going to be sweet.
She invited all of her friends. Her parents were paying for all of the food. They were going to have a barbecue. Steve and Reed were going to be grilling chicken wings. She was making all of the side dishes, along with DeeAnn, Brenda, and Connie, her bestest girlfriends, as they liked to call each other. Donelle was taking care of the music. He had all of the jams. Some Earth, Wind & Fire, Ohio Players, War, Bootsy, MFSB, Blackbyrds, Brothers Johnson. All of the jams.
Renita would be heading to Spelman in the fall. She was really looking forward to to it. She had never been to Atlanta, and she couldn’t wait. She had heard so much about it. So much history.
Her girlfriends were going to be over at noon, so they could start the making the side dishes and everything. Potato salad, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, greens, fries. They had gone shopping last night. It was so much fun. People probably thought they were crazy. Along with the chicken wings Steve and Reed were grilling, they were going to make sure that nobody went home hungry.
The party was starting at 7:00. Steve and Reed were going to be there around 6:00 to get the grilling started, and everything. This was really going to be a nice party. It’s the first one that she ever gave, but she figured with graduation and everything, why not. Besides, who knew when she would get a chance to see everyone again. Being with her friends, having fun, listening to music, eating, dancing, what a nice way to spend a summer evening. Yes, this was really going to be a nice party.
