“Oh no!” Sarah screamed. “It’s ruined!” Her painting, that she had just finished, was lying facedown on the garage floor. She was afraid to look.
Sarah really enjoyed painting. She wasn’t a professional, or anything like that, but it was something she liked to do. It helped her to relax. She had been painting since she was a little girl. She started out like most kids, drawing with crayons, and then on to painting in art class in school. It was soon discovered that she actually had a talent for it.
In addition to doing portraits of her parents, and little brother, she also used her very active imagination, to create very detailed scenic paintings. From a young girl, and into her teenage years, she had created hundreds of paintings. Some she kept for herself, but most of them, she gave away. She couldn’t see taking money for doing something she loved to do.
The pastor announced in church a couple of weeks ago that there was going to be an opportunity for the youth to showcase their talents. Everyone had a talent for something. The young people were very excited about this. A couple of them were going to sing, some were going to dance, Travis was going to give a speech, and Tammy and Stuart were going to do a comedy act, if you can believe that. Deloris came to Sarah with an interesting idea.
Deloris played the piano, and since Sarah painted, Deloris thought it might be a nice idea, if she played the piano, and as she did, Sarah would hold up a few of her paintings that would go along with the song Deloris would play. Sarah thought it was a great idea. It was something a little different. After hearing the tune Delores would be playing, she got right to work creating paintings that she thought would go along with the tune.
Well, the talent show was the next day, and Sarah had just finished the final painting of the set she would present along with Deloris’ piano piece. She was really proud of this piece because it was so intricate. It had small yellow, pink, and blue ribbon like swirls against a solid background. It wasn’t quite dry yet, but it was getting there. She put the painting up on the easel, and went to open the garage door. She always did her paintings in the garage. As she went to click the button on the side of the wall to open the garage, she accidentally kicked one of the legs of the easel, and it fell forward, face planting her painting.
“It’s ruined!” she screamed. Her mother came running out as she heard the scream. Sarah sat on the ground, almost in tears. Her mother was reassuring. They picked up the painting, and it was covered with small pebbles from the garage floor. Her mother thought the painting could be salvaged, so one by one, they removed each of the pebbles from the painting. “Wow!” Sarah said after they finished. “It doesn’t look half bad.” I knew it was salvageable.” Her mother stated. Sarah was quite pleased with the outcome, even with the unfortunate event.
The next night at the talent show, with Deloris playing her piano piece, and Sarah’s paintings, things could not have gone any better.
