“Stunning!” That’s what Rosie called it. “Stunning!” Steve said that he couldn’t keep his eyes off of it, with all of the colors and everything. Corkie called it, “Simple, but powerful.” Danny didn’t know about all of that. He liked his latest creation, but the highest praise he could give himself on this latest piece was just that it was ok. “It has plenty of color.” Cortez said. “Plus it has texture, and it looks old. Like it was done a hundred years ago, or at least fifty years ago.” Danny smiled and thanked him, but he really didn’t think it was all of that. He thought his friends were just being kind.
Danny had been creating art for as long as he could remember. He started out drawing with crayons and then colored pencils. His subjects were anything he saw. He drew houses, cars, landscapes and people. People were his favorite subjects to draw, but they were also the most difficult. Especially the hands. For awhile he just didn’t draw hands at all, but then his first grade teacher, Miss Wineburg, told him that he needed to start drawing the hands. It took some time before he was able to draw them so that they looked halfway decent.
He eventually graduated from crayons and pencils to painting. He found that he really loved to paint. For the longest time landscapes were his favorite subjects, but then he started painting whatever he wanted, and however he wanted. I mean like with no boundaries or anything. Sometimes it was wild and all over the place, and other times, it was neat clean, and orderly. He just painted however he felt. He called it, “Doing My Own Thing” art.
“Hey Danny. This is really cool.” Mae said. “I like it. You know with all of your art, you should try and sell some of it. Get a YouTube channel, show your art, and put some music behind it. I know some perfect songs you could use. “Danny told her that he would think about it. It was a good idea. For now though, Danny was just glad that his friends liked his work. One step at a time.
