Summer Dreams

Long and lazy are the days, with the cool breeze blowing the heat away.

The golden sun high in the sky, birds silhouetted as they fly.

Children playing tag in the street, corner crooners trying to stay on beat.

Ice cream man rolling down the block, kids say the bomb pops really rock.

There’s no school for two more months, that makes the kids do happy jumps.

Go to the park, hang out with friends, it seemed like those days would never end.

Week long alley baseball games, the score was all tied when it started to rain.

Two hundred to two hundred was the standing score, but when the rain stops, we’ll be back for more.

Down to the park, where everyone is, Johnny, Donut, and Mizzy Miz.

Riding bikes, and having fun, Ronnie’s bike had a flat, so he had to run.

Hanging out together, sitting on the stoop, Bev’s little sister keeps trying to snoop.

Off to Y Camp for a couple of weeks, canoeing down rapids is not for the meek.

End of the summer, so it’s time for the fair. Seems like many thousand of people are there.

Cheese curd, corn dogs, and pork chops on a stick, the sweet corn on the cob really does the trick.

Over to the midway we must go, playing the games, and trying to sneak in a show.

These days were so long ago, it seems, but I’m glad I have these summer dreams.
