Regina was definitely living her best life. At 23 years old, she had a great job, and was making really good money. She had a great group of supportive friends, and fantastic parents. Her twin sister had been her best friend all of her life. She was also dating a guy that she really liked, and was starting to think that maybe the two of them might have a future together. Yes, life was good. She was deeply involved in activities at her church. One of the things she was involved in was the young adults Bible study. The other week, they had listened to a song that really hit home for her. The song was, “Precious Lord, Take My Hand,” by Thomas A. Dorsey. The words were:
Precious Lord, take my hand, Lead me on, let me stand I am tired, I am weak, I am worn; Through the storm, through the night, Lead me on to the light;
Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home.
When my way grows drear, Precious Lord, linger near. When my life is almost gone, Hear my cry, hear my call Hold my hand, lest I fall;
Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home
When the darkness appears And the night draws near, And the day is past and gone, At the river I stand, Guide my feet, hold my hand; Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home
It was explained that the song was written in Thomas Dorsey’s darkest hour, after his wife died in childbirth, and their infant son died shortly after. Regina tried to imagine the pain he must have felt. There was nothing like that going on in her life though, and she prayed that there never would be.
One thing she came to realize though, is that we should ask the Lord to guide us in all times, and even as things were going great for her at this time, it was still important to seek out God’s direction and guidance. Precious Lord, take my hand, even when things are great.
