The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5
Have you ever been in a dark room, and turned on the light? What happens? The light pushes out the darkness, and the room becomes light, or at least lighter. The only way that darkness overcomes the light is if the light is turned off, or goes out.
In the dark, you can’t see where you are going? How many times have you gotten up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, and stumble around because you can’t see anything? I remember driving through Kansas in the middle of the night, on a road trip to Dallas, and it was so dark that you couldn’t see anything beyond your headlights. Even in that darkness though, you could see, way off in the distance, the lights of other cars traveling that road.
With the light though, you can see where you are going. The light can act as your guide, and direct your path. Think about how ships used lighthouses to guide them safely into the harbor.
Jesus is the light, and even in a world filled with darkness, he offers hope by providing guidance in troubled times, giving us the ability to overcome any challenges we may face, if you put your faith and trust in him.
